QUEENSBURY, N.Y. (AP) — Jury selection is underway in the trial of a 24-year-old man charged in a boat crash on Lake George last summer that killed a young girl from California who was visiting relatives.

Alexander West, of Queensbury, is accused of manslaughter and 11 other charges in the crash last July that killed Charlotte McCue, of Carlsbad, California. The third-grader was out for an evening cruise with her family when a motorboat driven by West crashed over their boat.

The Warren County District Attorney's office says witnesses told police that West had gotten high during the annual Log Bay Day party on the lake earlier that day.

West pleaded not guilty to charges including boating while ability impaired and leaving the scene of an accident.

Jury selection began Monday.
