Orchard Park, NY (WBEN/AP) A pair of trades at One Bills Drive, one may have shocked Bills fans, as wide receiver Sammy Watkins has been traded to the Los Angeles Rams.

Watkins was the 4th overall pick in the NFL draft in 2014. During his time with the Bills, he scored 17 touchdowns and had 2,459 yards receiving.

Watkins is being dealt along with a 6th round pick next year to Los Angeles for cornerback EJ Gaines and the Rams' 2018 second round pick.

The Bills also traded cornerback Ronald Darby to the Philadelphia Eagles for Jordan Matthews and a 2018 third round pick.

Bills GM Brandon Beane on trades of Sammy Watkins and Ronald Darby

Beane says the Bills were not actively shopping for any player. "LA became very serious about Sammy, and Philadelphia got very serious about Ronald, and the timing worked out, and as I realized the timing worked out I was able to get Jordan to replace Sammy and EJ Gaines to replace Ronald," says Beane.

Matthews averaged 75 catches, 891 receiving yards and six touchdowns in his first three seasons. Darby was the Bills second round pick in 2015.
