BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - The city council held a public hearing as they continue to review the mayor's proposed budget. Many are calling for more money to be put in participatory budgeting.

Jennifer Furman, a resident of the ellicott district, is calling out the mayor for not having this money already planned.

"I am asking you the common council, our elected representatives, to listen to the residents of buffalo since the mayor is choosing not to," Furman said. "I ask you to amend the budget to include $5 Million for particpatory budgeting so residents can have a direct say in how money is invested in our community."

Council President Darius Pridgen says it is easier said than done.

"I do understand what those who want $5 Million to do, and I'm not against it," Pridgen said. "I'm just not sure at this point with raising taxes, raising user fees and not having a dedicated revenue from the casino revenue whether we can take $5 Million for participatory budgeting at this point."

The council must return an answer to the mayor's proposed budget next week.
