Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Those seeking to hit the water at Safe Harbor Marina -- the marina off Furhmann Boulevard near the Coast Guard Station- were disappointed earlier this week when they learned last month's soaking rains caused a delay in the start of the season.

"It was scheduled for May 15th. We're in the middle of an $8 million project for the harbor," says general manager Keith Pease. "We were put a bit behind because of weather and equipment breakdowns. It put us back a week. If the rains didn't fall we would have been open on time." Pease hopes to have things ready to go this afternoon.

Pease says there are new docks, power and water supplies, and a new eight lane public ramp.

Pease says his customers have been disappointed, but are understanding about the new project.
