BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Shark Girl, the popular art sculpture on Canalside, shows minor signs of wear and tear with paint chips along various parts of the project.

Some of the areas include its right eye, the bow, and even the rock on which it sits. The project, which was installed in 2014, is maintained by the Albright Knox Art Gallery but may also be maintained in the future by the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation.

Both sides told area news, WGRZ and The Buffalo News, that the sculpture is expected to stay at Canalside.

We asked visitors at Canalside to estimate the cost of Shark Girl's upkeep. Most people estimated between hundreds of dollars to as high as $5,000.

The curator of the sculpture was not available to speak to WBEN but previously said to WGRZ that the cost varies depending on the amount of exposure received from the elements and people.
