The AAA reports local gas prices eased by half a penny to $2.65, on average, for a gallon of unleaded gas.  That's exactly what a gallon cost one month ago.   

Just how big is Cyber Monday?  Shoppers are expected to spend $6.6 billion today, up more than 16 percent from a year ago, according to Adobe Analytics, the research arm of software maker Adobe.  This year, more people will be picking up their phones to shop: Web traffic from smartphones and tablets is expected to top desktop computers for the first time this year.

The boom in on-line traffic hasn't meant a total bust for foot traffic at malls and big box retailers - but it has made a dent.  Many people have taken up the practice of "showrooming" - or getting ideas at brick-and-mortar stores, then buying online.  As a result, Amazon could beat fourth-quarter sales estimates by 5 percent.

Two UB computer scientists have been awarded $75,000 by IBM to develop a software-based solution that reduces the energy consumption of existing computing hardware.
