Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Over the weekend, rumors were flowing about whether there would be a new Democratic challenger to Republican Congressman Chris Collins. Erie County's party leader quick to put that to rest.

"(Monday) was the final day to decline their petition to run for congress and Nate McMurray is running," says Erie County Democratic Party Chairman Jeremy Zellner. It was rumored the Grand Island supervisor would be replaced by Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul.

"We hope we send Kathy Hochul back to Albany for another four years. She's a fierce fighter for this community and I don't want to lose her," says Zellner. "We've known the governor's got to choose Kathy or another running mate. So, up to this point we hope he chooses to keep Kathy."

Zellner says name recognition for McMurray may not be as much an issue as Collins. "In this district, people know Chris Collins, so they're either going to support his raising taxes, taking away health care and making his friends millionaires or not. They won't care about the candidate at some point, it's what's best for the district," believes Zellner.
