Lockport, NY (WBEN) -- One man is dead, after a standoff in Lockport that dragged through Saturday evening.

The Niagara Gazette reports a man called 9-1-1 around 5 p.m. Saturday to report a death.

"Whose?" asked the operator.

"Mine," replied the man, which was followed by a sharp noise police now believe was the fatal gunshot.

Several units responded to the address from which the call was made, and unsuccessful attempts were made to contact the caller.

After more than five hours, police gained entry to the house and found a male dead on the second floor, the result of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot.

Channel Two News WGRZ is also reporting an emaciated elderly female was encountered on the first floor. She was hospitalized.
