NFL Approves Bills Toronto Series Extension

Toronto, ON (WBEN) The Bills Toronto series is a step closer to being extended.

The NFL's international committee has approved the Bills' plans to continue their partnership with Rogers Communications through 2017.

A final deal has yet to be reached between the two sides, though both the Bills and Rogers have said they're optimistic an extension deal will be reached.

Bills CEO Russ Brandon says in a statement, “The International Committee’s decision to approve the continuation of our games in Toronto is a crucial step in our ongoing efforts to regionalize our franchise. As we have stated on many occasions, the regionalization process remains vital to keeping our franchise strong in Western New York. We are continuing our discussions with Rogers Communications on a new deal and remain optimistic that we can come to an agreement in the near future.”

A source tells the Toronto Sun the extension will be "significantly" less lucrative for the Bills. As a result, NFL fans in Ontario and Western New York can expect ticket prices to be lower than they have been in previous years. Rogers has received immense criticism for the high prices of tickets to Bills-in-Toronto games.

Public contribution to Stadium and Bills Games in Toronto
Since the moving of a game to Toronto results in approx 12% reduction in Erie county business ( 1 of 8 home games ), the taxpayer contribution to stadium renovations should be reduced accordingly. It should as a minimum be considered during negotiations.
