Buffalo, NY (WBEN) The Buffalo Schools have announced the three finalists for the superintendent's job.

The candidates include Amber Dixon, the district's current interim superintendent. She's held the top job since replacing previous superintendent Dr. James Williams.

Prior to her current role, Dixon served as executive director of Evaluation, Accountability, and Project Initiatives has worked within the Buffalo schools for 21 years.

The candidates also include Dr. Edward Newsome, who is the Assistant Superintendent for High Schools in Baltimore County, Maryland. Prior to his current role, Newsome served as Director of School Performance in Montgomery County, Md., and has 38 years of experience in public education. 

The third candidate is Dr. Pamela Brown, currently serving as Senior Research and Planning Associate for the Center for Educational Leadership and Technology in Marlborough, Mass. Prior to her current role, Brown served as Assistant Superintendent and Chief Academic Officer for the Philadelphia School District, and also has education administration experience in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District.

Brown has more than 30 years of experience in public education, according to a news release from the Buffalo schools.

The district will introduce two of the finalists -- Dixon and Newsome -- in a public reception set for Thursday at Waterfront Elementary School at 95 4th St. at 5:30pm. Brown has a family emergency and will visit Buffalo in the near future.

The school board hopes to make its choice for a permanent superintendent in early June, school board president Lou Petrucci told reporters after Wednesday's meeting at Buffalo City Hall.
