Hochul Returns from Afghanistan

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Congresswoman Kathy Hochul has returned from a bipartisan trip to Afghanistan and says while there are several issues on her mind, two stand out.

The first, says Hochul, is Pakistan. "What frustrates me more than anything, is we give federal taxpayer dollars to support Pakistan. If only Pakistan would allow us to go into their country and weed out the Taliban, we could be so much further along with the transition," says Hochul. The transition is to be complete by 2014, according to Hochul.

Hochul is also concerned about the troops who will soon return. "We need to pay close attention to this. I supported initiatives to create tax breaks for companies who hire veterans. We need to do more, though, because we do not want to see these troops on the unemployment line, we need to take care of them," insists Hochul.

Hochul adds some troops will also be dealing with PTSD, post traumatic stress disorder. "A lot of jobs won't be suitable for them, but others will. We talked about this at length with troops from Western New York while I was in Kandahar," noted Hochul.
