Fifteen New York Army National Guard soldiers, and a family member of a fallen New York Army National Guard soldier will gather with volunteers for a short ceremony at the memorial, which consists of a tree and a carved stone with the names of soldiers who died in action.
The soldiers will spend volunteer time prior to the event sprucing up the memorial. They will be doing this on their own time. Home Depot donated supplies for the project.
Across the nation it will be a time to remember the nation's war dead.
At 4 p.m., volunteers outside Washington DC will begin placing U.S. flags at the more than 220,000 grave markers at Arlington National Cemetery, a tradition that has been part of Memorial Day weekend activities for more than six decades.
