Corasanti trial moves into its final phase

After the closing arguments, Judge Sheila DiTullio will give the jurors their instructions, and deliberations will then begin.

The jury has heard from more than 40 witnesses -- including 37 for the prosecution -- since the start of testimony back on April 26.

The witnesses included neighbors who heard the accident, police investigators, the defendant's neighbors, and forensics experts.

The jury also heard from two accident-reconstruction experts -- one for the prosecution and one for the defense -- and the panel got to see the damaged front portion of the defendant's car.

Dr. Corasanti also took the witness stand in his own defense.  He spent a day-and-a-half answering questions before a packed courtroom.  The defendant provided testimony that included tears when describing the accident -- and insistence that he wasn't drunk or texting while his BMW was moving.

As the testimony progressed, defense attorney Joel Daniels made several requests for a mistrial, but they were all denied. On a few occasions, the requests followed newspaper articles on the case.
