Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - Buffalo police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man by an officer who chased he man on foot before the two struggled on a city street in the city's Black Rock area early Sunday morning.
Late Monday, the shooting victim was identified as 25-year-old John Sordetto. Sordetto was shot and killed by police officer Mark Andrewczak who witnesses said was punched repeatedly in the face by the suspect who was trying to get the officer's gun when the policeman fired the fatal shot.
Police say the officer approached the man around 5 a.m. while investigating a report of a stolen police cruiser, but the man ran away. When the officer caught up with him, there was a struggle.
The officer was treated at the hospital and released.
