Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Three attorneys gave their thoughts on the James Corasanti verdict on WBEN, moments after the verdict was announced.

Attorney Barry Covert says the jury believed Corasanti.

"Dr. Corasanti was able to get up on the stand, and with an experienced prosecution team...the jurors decided and thought he was credible and if they didn't they would have found him guilty," says Covert.

Covert says the jury listened to the judge's instructions, and determined based upon the law, Corasanti was not guilty of vehicular manslaughter or manslaughter.

Attorney Paul Cambria agrees.

"The doctor was sincere, I think his testimony carried the day. The defense was successful in neutralizing the expert testimony of the prosecution," says Cambria.

"They believed him, and (the prosecution) underestimated that, and the tone of the summations was wrong against someone like this." Cambria believes prosecutors underestimated the likability of Corasanti and mocking him was the wrong tactic.

Former Erie County DA Frank Clark admits he was surprised by the verdict, but not by how the jury got there.

"I'm not surprised after hearing the jury was requesting for a charge of DWI because that meant the jury had already acquitted him of manslaughter," explains Clark.

"Looking at it from the outside, if they found there wasn't enough evidence to support that charge, they likely acquitted him of all the other charges, but the fact they did comes as a great surprise to me."

Clark dispels any myth money or status played a role in the outcome.

"You had three capable defense lawyers and three experienced prosecutors, so you're talking about a talented team, so money played no role in this. It was the jury and the jury alone," believes Clark.
