Hotels Filling up for Wallenda Falls Walk

Niagara Falls, NY (WBEN) Hotel rooms are filling up fast in Niagara Falls as the historic walk across the Falls by Nik Wallenda draws near.

At Sheraton at the Falls, Director of Sales and Marketing Geoffrey Reeds says the hotel is three-quarters full now, "but we definitely anticipate to be full the date of the event. Once the official date of the event was announced, things really started to speed up." Reeds says it's a regional draw, with people driving in from a 300-400 mile radius.

Reeds says there's been a lot of excitement already at the hotel, as Wallenda practiced across the street from his hotel at Seneca Niagara Casino and Hotel.

"Not only at the Sheraton but all around the community there's an upbeat attitude, it's going to bring a lot of people into the area, hopefully some who haven't seen the falls before, and hope they'll come back for a future stay as well," says Reeds.

At the Red Coach Inn, Tom Reese says his rooms have been booked for a while. "We're a smaller hotel, we have 35 rooms, and weekends are usually filled," explains Reese, who adds his rooms were filled before Wallenda's walk date was announced.

He says another part of his business will be busy too that weekend. "I'm sure our restaurant will be busy. It's the closest one to Prospect Park so I think we'll get a lot of restaurant business from people coming here for the walk," says Reese.

Reese is also excited about the event. "I think anything that brings attention to Niagara Falls will be good for business and good for the area," notes Reese.
