Buffalo School Board begins work to choose next superintendent

Buffalo (WBEN) -- The Buffalo School Board on Tuesday began the process of deciding which of the three finalists should become the next superintendent of schools.

The board will choose between the three finalists, who include Amber Dixon, the district's current interim superintendent; Dr. Edward Newsome of Baltimore County, Md., and Dr. Pamela Brown of Marlborough, Mass.

Robert Bennett, Western New York's representative on the New York State Board of Regents, has shared some thoughts on this upcoming decision. He says the board is likely looking at several factors.

"A person that knows how to build a team and be open to the media and the public and have legitimate parental engagement," Bennett says.

He also thinks the board will choose the candidate that understands what growth models really mean and the new waiver that's been granted to New York state to develop its "unique" accountability system.

Bennett also figures the Board will want a leader who will understand that the district will have several schools on the federal and state watch lists.
