Buffalo Business Report - Wednesday, June 6th 2012

Verizon Communications is offering buy-outs to 17-hundred union employees connected to its wireline business. Business First, citing other reports, indicates Verizon hopes to cut those jobs in early July. If not enough people take the buy-out, then lay-offs would follow.

The Buffalo area picked up 25-hundred private sector jobs over the past year. That's according to tabulations gleaned from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics by American City Business Journals.

The Seneca Nation has doled out $1 million in grant money to over a dozen community agencies or private sector businesses near its Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino. Four groups each received $100,000; the Old First Ward Community Association, the Edward Cotter Fireboat Project, the Buffalo River Rowing Center and the Valley Community Association.

An 11am ribbon cutting is set for tomorrow on a new UNYTS blood donation center. The center is at 96 Niagara Street in Tonawanda.
