too little too late
I think Corasanti would have gotten off despite any laws written. He bought his way out of what anyone else would be serving years for. Corasanti will drink and drive again because his ego is too big. Lets just hope he is on the short end of the stick next time.

Corasanti "looking ahead,paying attention"
I believe that's what he said he was doing behind the wheel.Good, then he did see that he hit a person, going only 40 m.p.h. and all.

No law change will help
...an ignorant jury. That jury can talk all they want about "WE were in the courtroom and heard ALL the evidence", but point remains that they were VERY naive in thinking that this guy didn't KNOW he hit something substantial. Maybe that car cuts down on ambient noise outside the car, but when a 100 pound person hits that car, there will be a noise INSIDE the car. If that car insolates the driver from what's going on outside the car as much as the defense wanted them to believe, it wouldn't be allowed on the road for safety reasons. The defense offered the standard DWI defense with no real evidence to substantiate their claims. Yet, the dumb jury was more than happy to buy it all, hook, line and sinker.

NOT a good idea!!
Typical response - let's make it more difficult on someone later for an unforeseeable prosecution now. Why don't we just remove ALL the elements of ANY DWI crime, so the government doesn't have to prove ANYTHING? The basis of our laws is that the government needs to specify all the elements that make up crimes so we know what is illegal. It also keeps the government from arbitrarily charging people with crimes they didn't commit. Anyone here believe in freedom, or should we just start throwing people in jail because we feel like it???

NOT a good idea!!!
Removing more restrictions and definitions on a crime is not a good idea. Laws are in place to restrict the power of the government, otherwise we could be charged arbitrarily with anything someone doesn't like. The state passed these laws not long ago - they should have looked harder at it then, not now to appease the public anxious for revenge.
