Report: Ex-Eagles President Could Look at Buying Bills

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) A report out of Philadelphia says the former president of the Philadelphia Eagles is looking to form a group to buy an NFL team. One of the teams mentioned was the Buffalo Bills.

Howard Eskin of WIP in Philadelphia reports Joe Banner is looking to buy an NFL team, and in addition to be the Bills, may be looking to buy the Cleveland Browns or the St. Louis Rams.

"I was told Buffalo, Cleveland, and St. Louis could be for sale, and then I was told by someone else he could have an interest in Buffalo," says Eskin, who tweeted his report Thursday afternoon.

He adds this is in the early stages, assuming the Bills are for sale, but Eskin notes, "everything has its price."

Eskin says viability won't be an issue. "It is clearly viable for Joe Banner to come up with money people" to form a group to potentially buy an NFL team.  Eskin has also heard the Bills "could be one of the teams for sale...I had heard the team could clearly be on the market for sale."

Eskin says Buffalo came up in his discussions, but it's no word how serious that may be, but Buffalo is "clearly a possibility."

While Banner's  interest in Buffalo may be strong, circumstance is more likely to send him elsewhere, and the report is being dismissed as speculation by a longtime Bills beat reporter.

"Obviously, Bills fans, any time speculation like this comes along, wonder, but I don't know how much stock to put in Joe Banner putting an ownership team together to buy the Bills because from all we know, the Bills are not for sale and that hasn't changed," says AP writer John Wawrow.

Wawrow adds, "The Bills were mentioned by reporters, but Banner has only said he's not even sure which teams are for sale and he didn't say which teams he'd be after, only teams that are for sale."
