Two Girls Struck

(WBEN)  Police in Amherst report that two 13-year old Amherst girls are in critical condition after being struck by a car Saturday evening on Maple Road not far from Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital.

Police say that three girls were trying to cross at 1445 Maple near Culpepper and made their way to the center median. Two of the girls then stepped off into the path of a Jeep Liberty driven by 50-year old Maria Hoezel of Tonawanda. Erin Suszynski was taken to Women and Children's Hospital and Briana Francois was transported to ECMC. Both were listed in critical condition.

An on-duty Amherst Police Officer, Thomas Moss, witnessed the accident while in his patrol car which was waiting at Culpepper and Maple to make a turn. No charges have been filed and the accident remains under investigation.
