Buffalo, NY (WBEN) The Buffalo Teachers Federation has approved a teacher evaluation plan that restores $5.6 million in funding for Buffalo Public Schools.

The votes were still coming in from several buildings, but 75 percent of the votes were in favor of the amended plan that was declared approvable by the state education department.

For the most part, this was the agreement rejected by teachers in March, but there are some key changes.

One of those changes has to do with attendance in elementary schools. That provision was granted where 35 percent or more of students miss at least 18 days of school a year will lead to credit for teachers.

Scoring charts were adjusted to allow teachers to more easily receive an effective grade as opposed to developing, and a chart for high school teachers will allow them to become highly effective more easily.

Interim Superintendent Amber Dixon issued this statement saying this agreement was reached with NYSED through the diligence of district staff, teachers and administrators of the Buffalo Public Schools.
 
“I believe that this collaborative effort will help as we look to secure new teacher and administrator evaluation processes with the BTF and BCSA for the 2012-2013 school year,” Dixon said.
