Buffalo, NY (WBEN) A Buffalo man has pleaded guilty to killing a woman 18 years ago.
54 year old James Fountain admits to stabbing 29 year old Cynthia Epps back in June 1994.
Fountain had claimed finding Epps' body stuffed into a side table next to his garage.
Fountain denied any knowledge or contact with Epps and cooperated in the initial investigation.
Cold Case detectives reopened the case two years ago and discovered Fountain had been convicted in New York City of manslaughter in the 1970s in New York City, a 1984 rape conviction and a 1996 attempted rape conviction in Erie County, and had been placed in indefinite civil confinement.
DNA linked Fountain to the Epps death.
Fountain later admitted to investigators he tried to decapitate Epps to dispose of her more easily.
He'll be sentenced on July 13th.
