The number of people without jobs in New York increased slightly last month, nudging the unemployment rate to 8.6 percent from 8.5 percent in April and 8.1 percent a year earlier. The state labor department said Thursday the number of jobless workers grew to 826,000 from 807,000 a month earlier. That as the state added 6,100 private sector jobs in May, bringing the number added since the end of the recession to 337,000. Over the past year, New York showed gains in professional and business services, educational and health services and hospitality and leisure sectors.

The price of a gallon of gasoline in Western New York is still falling. The AAA says it is $3.77 on average, down from $3.79 yesterday. 

Workers in SEIU 1199 at the McGuire Group Nursing Homes have ratified a new contract, granting a 4% raise and benefit changes for 800 workers at the Autumn View, Garden Gate, Northgate and Seneca Health Care Centers.

The Taste of Buffalo unveiled its plans for the coming event July 7 and 8th . For the first time food trucks will be there along with 51 other restaurants.
