Cuomo, Legislature OK cyber bullying bill

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New York's legislative leaders say they have final approval for a cyber-bullying awareness and reporting bill.

The agreement announced Saturday ends days of negotiations over details of the bill, which won't include a criminal charge for the act.

The bill focuses on defining cyber bullying as harassment, insults, taunting and threats through social media.

The measure would be voted on this week by the full Legislature.

It also requires schools to increase awareness efforts and create a reporting system to handle all suspected incidents of cyber bullying.

Sen. Jeffrey Klein had pushed late last week to include a criminal charge in the bill.
