(AP) Authorities say a father beat to death a man who he said tried to sexually assault his 5-year-old daughter at their rural Texas farm.
Lavaca County Sheriff Micah Harmon said Monday he doesn't anticipate arresting the father following Saturday's killing near Shiner, about 130 miles west of Houston.
Harmon says nothing suggests the beating death happened for "any reason other than what he told us."
Jesus Mora Flores was killed on the afternoon of June 9 on a rural farm pasture on County Road 302 between Shiner and Yoakum. In a press release issued Friday, authorities said Flores was attempting to sexually assault the girl.
"When emergency medical personnel arrived, Jesus Mora Flores' pants and underwear were down and the man's genitals were exposed," said Lavaca County Sheriff Micah Harmon, who was quoted in a press released issued by District Attorney Heather McMinn.
Harmon says the victim was a 47-year-old man from Gonzales who appeared to have no prior criminal history. He says the man went to the property Saturday to help care for some horses.
The father's name is being withheld because of the ongoing investigation. Harmon says a grand jury will decide what, if any, charges the father will face.
