Buffalo, NY (WBEN) One of the baby peregrine falcons nesting at Statler Towers had quite a fall over the weekend. But the SPCA Serving Erie County says the bird is doing fine.
Gina Browning of the SPCA tells WBEN the bird was learning to fly Sunday when she fell and hit the sidewalk. "By the time we got there the falcon was already picked up and at our doorstep in an hour," says Browning.
SPCA Wildlife Department staff and Dr. Karen Moran saw that the baby was in good shape, no complications from the fall. They then consulted the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), and everyone determined an immediate return to the Statler was in order.
That was no easy task as you can see in these videos (PART 1) (PART 2).
I have followed the Statler Nest for years. So good to know that the eyass is ok and has taken a successful flight. Hoping that Mr. Croce is able to bring back the Statler Falcon Cam for next season. We haven't had a cam on this nest for a few years ... really miss it!
