The newly drawn district has 58 % of its voters in Erie and Niagara Counties, but sheds places where more moderate Republicans and Democrats live and extends across rural Republican strongholds between Erie County and Canandaigua in the Finger Lakes.
By some estimates, it is one of the most Republican districts in the nation now, where based on past presidential election patterns, a Republican could have an automatic advantage of at least 10 -- maybe even 12 -- percent of the vote.
Former Erie County Executive Chris Collins (left) brings name recognition and a bigger war chest to a challenge against decorated war veteran David Bellavia (far left) , an activist who has strong support in the outlying counties. Both Bellavia and Collins admit they have very few real differences on the issues- but they both question whether the other can bring the right experience to the fray. Hear extensive interviews with them both, above from WBEN's Hardline program.
