Buffalo, NY (WBEN) One man who operates a waterfront business says a lot's been developed along Buffalo's waterfront. But at the same time, he says there are thousands of acres that could turn into more access for the community.

Rick Lenard of RCR Yachts says the walkway on the Outer Harbor has been used by fishermen, walkers, and boaters since it was developed. But he says finding a place to dock a boat has become tough to come by as of late. "We know at our marina we're almost at full capacity, Erie Basin is almost at full capacity, Small Boat Harbor has some slips available," says Lenard. "There are areas in the Outer Harbor that could be developed into more dockage," referring to the 1,200 acres of waterfront land owned by government agencies. He suggests doing what was done with the Outer Harbor to accomplish that: a public private partnership.

Lenard also believes a community boating center would be helpful. "A few entities in town are fighting for their piece of the pie, and I think a community boating center where people can join and help with the maintenance and get the use of the boats that are there, both power and sail (would be good)," suggests Lenard.
