Jamestown, NY (WBEN) Jamestown Police are looking into a lottery scam targeting an elderly resident.
Police say the resident received a letter saying she had won $1.5 million, and that letter contained a number to call where she would be given furhter instructions. Police say the victim never called that number but Monday the company called her.
Police say the woman was told to go to a specific electronics store and buy a gift card, load it with $250, then give it to a delivery person who would come to the victim's home at a specific time. That person would give her the package and a limo with a lawyer and accountant would arrive to give the woman her winnings.
Police say a close relative was home at the time of the call and intervened without any loss to the victim.
Anyone else who got such a letter is asked to contact police.
