Buffalo Business Report - Thursday, July 5th 2012

NRG Energy has put forth a proposal that could lead to the conversion of its Tonawanda and Dunkirk plants to natural gas burners, rather than coal. New York State had asked for input on revitalizing its aging infrastructure, according to Business First. State funds would be needed to spark the conversion. Differences at the plants would mean the Dunkirk NRG facility would be able to fire completely on natural gas by as soon as 2014.

Eastman Kodak Company's plan to sell off its portfolio of patents has been approved. The sale of over 11-hundred patents will be conducted and overseen by bankruptcy court. That auction is expected next month, with the winning bidder to be announced by August 13th.

North Tonawanda's Fire Department will be receiving a $74,000 grant through the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response program.
