Air conditioner firms are keeping busy

Buffalo (WBEN) -- The temperature in Buffalo didn't reach the record high that forecasters predicted on Tuesday, but local air conditioning firms remain active this time of year.

The demand during the summer tends to vary, says Ed Black, vice president of John Lock Heating and Air Conditioning of Buffalo.

"Changes with the temperature basically. I mean the hot, humid nights are what increase the demand substantially," he says.

Black says the firm's technicians are generally busy with air conditioning maintenance from May through the fall.

He commented on the same day as the anniversary of Willis Carrier inventing the air conditioner -- and he believes there's nothing better for cooling comfort.

"Quite honestly, once you've had the air conditioning and gotten accustomed to it, you wonder how you ever lived without it," Black says.
