National GOP Spending Launches Billboard Campaign Against Hochul

(WBEN) Weeks after a national Democratic organization pledged over $200,000 to help re-elect Kathy Hochul, the National Republican Congressional Committee is launching a billboard advertising campaign throughout the newly drawn 26th congressional district depicting incumbent Kathy Hochul as someone who is literally helping drive Pres. Obama's policies through Congress..

The campaign is being called "the first wave," of advertising on behalf of Chris Collins, with mobile billboards being taken to various Hochul events in Western New York.

"This is only the beginning of our campaign to hold Kathy Hochul accountable and ensure that New Yorkers are aware of the consequences of another Hochul-Obama term in office.” said National Republican Congressional Campaign spokesman Paul Lyndsey in a prepared statement.

The billboards show Hochul and President Obama together behind the wheel of a truck labeled "Obama Care." It comes at a time when she is trying to stress her independence, highlighting a voting record that goes against the Democratic line 19 percent of the time.  This past week, Politico.com named her number three on a list of "Top Five Democrats Moving away from Pres. Obama"

"Kathy Hochul has proved to be nothing more than a rubber stamp for her Democrat leaders as she has voted to cut Medicare, increasing taxes and healthcare costs on New York families," an NRCC statement on the new  yet unspecified spending says.

The campaign will include mobile billboards, targeted calls and online-ads "highlighting Hochul’s vote to keep ObamaCare in place," The NRCC says.

Last week, a major union and an outside group committed to electing Democrats to the House reserved nearly $20 million in television ad time for the fall in districts from Illinois to Florida as the party tries to reclaim the majority. The reservation includes  $205,000 reserved for the re-drawn 26th congressional district  where Hochul is hoping to hold onto her seat,

"The Koch brothers, Sheldon Adelson and Karl Rove have deep pockets, but House Majority PAC has a proven ability to spend efficiently and effectively and win races - just like in the NY-26 and AZ-08 specials when we won despite being outspent by Republican groups," Alixandria Lapp, executive director of House Majority PAC, said in a statement.

In response, Frank Thomas, the campaign manager for the Hochul campaign, issued the following statement.

"Chris Collins is clearly afraid to run against Kathy Hochul's independent record of fighting for Western New York, and now he and his allies are launching a desperate attempt to make this race about Barack Obama.  Kathy has repeatedly crossed party lines to repeal the most troubling portions of the health care bill, while protecting those provisions that protect our seniors, our young people, and those with pre-existing conditions.

"Instead of misrepresenting Kathy's record, Mr. Collins and his allies should explain to voters why he supports plans to force seniors to pay $6,400 more for their Medicare and use that money to give tax breaks to millionaires."
