Buffalo, NY (WBEN) -- A Thursday evening fire in South Buffalo heavily damaged the boyhood home of late journalist Tim Russert.

Buffalo fire crews were dispatched to 174 Woodside Avenue at about 10:00 p.m. There were no injuries reported.

Total damage was fixed at 100-thousand dollars.

Russert attended grammar school at Holy Family School on Tifft Street in the 1950's, and would tell the story of walking the one mile to school and home, plus an extra two miles because he walked home each day for lunch.

The section of Woodside Avenue near the home was designated "Tim Russert Way" after his passing in 2008.
