Buffalo, NY (WBEN) -- Buffalo's bishop will be doing double duty.
Bishop Richard Malone will continue to lead Roman Catholics in Portland, Maine, for a time, even after he is officially installed as the bishop in Buffalo next month.
Officially, Malone will carry the title of "apostolic administrator" in Portland, an additional responsibility designated by the Vatican.
This will allow Malone to continue leading the Catholic church's fight against the legalization of gay marriage in Maine.
There will be a statewide referendum on same-sex marriage November 6th.
