Niagara County SPCA Needs New Homes for Cats

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) The Niagara County SPCA is preparing to bring in cats from this week's investigation in to a cat rescue gone wrong in Somerset, and will hold an adoption event.

Executive Director Amy Lewis says she's trying to move some of the cats currently in the building into homes so the numerous cats on their way from Somerset can get needed care.

Lewis says adoption fees are being reduced, $19.99 for cats and $29.99 for dogs.

She says all animals are vetted and spayed or neutered.

As for the investigation, Lewis says the property owner, Beverly Cox, moved to Tennessee this spring and left the cats in the hands of a caretaker.

Lewis says Cox apparently wants to cooperate with investigators so she's hoping for a sign over of the animals, allowing for adoption or dispersal into farm homes in the case of feral cats.

She says 15 of those cats are in the SPCA and 10 of them are social enough to be adoptable when they are better.

As many as 100 cats could be coming to the shelter.
