Cleanup as Tornado Confirmed in Upstate NY



ELMIRA, N.Y. (AP) - At least 12 houses have been deemed uninhabitable after a tornado hit the upstate New York city of Elmira.

Chemung (shuh-MUNG') County spokeswoman Karen Miner says an assessment is still ongoing to see how many other structures were damaged by the storm.

The tornado touched down about 4 p.m. Thursday packing winds of up to 110 mph. It was part of a strong storm system that punished much of the northeast on Thursday.

There were no reports of injuries in Elmira.
