After voting down earlier proposals twice, nurses at Mercy Hospital have ratified a new contract between Catholic Health System and the Communications Workers of America. The four year deal covers about 750 nurses. A hospital statement says the deal includes raises ranging form 8 to 13 percent over the four years..
Forbes says the best bargain of local schools is The Unviersity at Buffalo. Way behind on their national rankings, UB leads the local pack, ranked 268 nationwide on Forbes "Top Colleges"/cost effective schools list.. The annual best schools survey looks at graduation rates and overall costs Canisius placed below UB at 451 out of some 600 schools surveyed. SUNY Geneseo came in at 322. Nationwide, Princeton is ranked number 1.
The NYS Power Authority has granted a cheap hydropower allocation to Black Rock, a New York City investment firm considering Amherst for its new data center. The 50,00 sq. ft, $35 million develioment would employ 25 if located here, but sites in Pennsylvania and Canada are also under consideration.
Sovran Self Storage reported second quarter results, with net income up five cents a share at 40 cents. Mod Pak says sales were up 1 percent for the quarter but revenue basically flat with a net per share loss $.04.
