Buffalo State College is sending 175 students downtown. While the school renovates a dorm, the new students will be at The Lofts at 136 on North Division street, putting that new student housing development at full occupancy.
The NYS Dept. of Taxation and Finance has seized Ulrich's Tavern and shut down operations at Buffalo's oldest continuing operating restaurant. The state says the business- opened on Elicott Street in 1868 - owes $215,000 on seven tax warrants.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo is calling farmers and manufacturers to a so-called yogurt summit to find ways the state can help increase New York's share of the growing trade. The state will look at regulations and laws that could get in the way of farmers providing more milk and manufacturers making yogurt. Cuomo made the announcement Thursday at a Greek-style yogurt plant being built in Batavia, near Rochester. The yogurt summit will be in Albany Aug. 15.
Theodores Red Hots-- a renegade offshoot of the famed Ted Hot Dog chain - is gearing up for a labor day opening of their third location at 7500 Transit Road in Amherst on Labor Day. The chain is run by Ted Liaros, the grandson and namesake of the orginal Ted's Hot Dog's chain founder, after he was ousted from that business last year.
