Buffalo announces details of gun buyback program



Buffalo (WBEN) -- The city of Buffalo wants more guns, rifles, and handguns off the streets -- and is ready to offer payment to make it happen.

The next "no questions asked" Gun Buyback program is set for Saturday, Aug. 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at seven area churches. They include the Jordan River Missionary Baptist Church on Leroy Avenue where Mayor Byron Brown announced the details on Tuesday.

The locations include:

EAST SIDE:  Jordan River Missionary Baptist Church, 440 Leroy Ave.

DOWNTOWN: St. John Baptist Church, 184 Goodell St.

NORTH BUFFALO: Church of the Good Shepherd, 96 Jewett Parkway

RIVERSIDE: Assembly of Christian Churches, 213 Ontario St.

SOUTH BUFFALO:  St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 450 Abbott Rd.

WEST SIDE: Primera United Methodist Church, 62 Virginia St.

Also... Prince of Peace Christian Church, 190 Albany St.


Pre-paid bank cash cards will provided, no questions asked, in the following denominations:

$10 -- non-working or antique guns (including BB guns and pellet guns)

$50 -- Rifles / Shotguns

$75 -- Handguns

$100 -- Assault weapons (e.g., Uzi's, AK-47s)
