Guns, Explosives Found In Williamsville

Williamsville, NY (AP/WBEN) -- Authorities say they've found suspected bomb-making materials and guns at a duplex in Amherst where a man was said to be shooting a rifle at bottles in his backyard.

Assistant Police Chief Charles Cohen says officers went to the house at 66 Williamsburg Court (r)  around 6 p.m. Wednesday to investigate the reports and the man allowed them inside, where guns were found along with "suspicious homemade explosives."

By the time crews left 15 hours later, they incident had grown to include the FBI , The  US Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, The Sheriff Dept.'s Bomb Squad  and Erie County's hazardous material crews.

Unofficial sources say they took away approximately 150 items from the home.

For now, the resident, Duncan Badding, is being held on a gun charge. Neighbors describe Badding as non threatening, but also say he had unusual habits such as target shooting with a blowdart and setting off fireworks, often late at night.  He could be seen in his yard on a pogo stick or often practicing on tall stilts, they say.

An investigation is just beginning.
