At least one Buffalo-area political analyst sees Mitt Romney's choice of Paul Ryan as a bit a surprise. Some figured Romney would go with the "safe" choice in someone like Tim Pawlenty, says Kevin Hardwick, political science professor at Canisius College and a member of the Erie County Legislature. "It tells you that he's a little bit more worried, or his people are more worried, about getting elected. They don't think that just running against Barack Obama and the bad economy is going to win them the race," Hardwick says. READ MORE |

Statement from Representative Kathy Hochul (D- Amherst) : “Americans deserve new ideas for how we can reduce the debt and protect our seniors and the middle class. Just one year ago, Western New York voters rejected the Ryan-Collins policies that would end Medicare as we know it and hurt middle class families while giving more tax cuts to the rich. Our country needs to move forward, not re-hash failed ideas. Given Chris Collins’ ongoing support for tax cuts for the rich that add nearly $1 trillion to the deficit and his willingness to send his business to China to line his pockets, it is clear my opponent is going to continue to pursue policies and priorities that have already been rejected.” |
Statement from Rep. Tom Reed (R- Corning) : “I am energized by Governor Romney’s choice of Paul Ryan to be his running mate. I have gotten to know Paul well as we serve together on the Ways and Means Committee. Paul Ryan is a man of courage and foresight who is willing to honestly debate and identify solutions to the dire financial crisis that our nation faces. I believe that Gov. Romney’s bold selection will elevate the debate above petty personal attacks and illustrate the stark contrast between two very different visions for the future of the United States: the Romney/Ryan vision for a future of smaller, more accountable government and a growing economy with more jobs and career opportunities versus an opposing vision that will mean deeper debt, more intrusive government and diminished opportunity. I look forward to working hard to elect the Romney/Ryan team.” |
