WASHINGTON (AP) - The Smithsonian is honoring Julia Child on what would have been the celebrated chef's 100th birthday.

The National Museum of American History is displaying a new installation of her kitchen as part of an upcoming exhibition on food in America.

Her kitchen will be on display through Sept. 3. On  Wednesday, the museum is hosting a daylong celebration of Child, including screenings of three episodes from WGBH's "The French Chef."

Child died in 2004.


An excerpt from a PBS science series in the 80's where Julia Child intentionally burns her food. Why? To make carbon, of course. The Phil she refers to is Phil Morrison, who hosts the series, titled RIng of Truth.
