(WBEN) A new 22-minute video by former military special operations members and CIA officers accuses President Obama of leaking information about the raid that killed terror-mastermind Osama bin Laden for political gain.
In the video, (above) Ben Smith, identified as a Navy Seal says " "Mr. President, you did not kill Osama bin Laden, America did. The work that the American military has done killed Osama bin Laden. You did not.”
The documentary also includes a group of former special operations and CIA officers that say the administration leaked information to Hollywood about the raid that killed Bin Laden last year.
Chad Kolton, a representative of the Special Operations OPSEC Education Fund group, said it had raised close to $1 million for ads that will run in six battleground states later this summer.
The OPSEC education fund has registered as a nonprofit social welfare group, not a political action committee, which means it doesn’t have to disclose its donors.
A man identified as a former Navy Seal in the video says:, “As a citizen, it is my civic duty to tell the president to stop leaking information to the enemy. It will get Americans killed.”
Kolton is a former spokesman for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence in the Bush administration, according to the Wall Street Journal. The paper also says that the president of OPSEC, Scott Taylor, ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 2010 as a Republican in Virginia.
Richard Benedetto, professor of politics at American University, says it's too early to guess how well this will resonate with voters, but he tells CBS News that " all's fair in politics".
The Obama campaign has fired back, comparing the video, called "Dishonorable Disclosures," to the Swift Boat attacks against Sen. John Kerry in 2004.
