Buffalo, NY (WBEN) -- The 11 annual National Buffalo Wing Festival not only had big hungry crowds, it also boasted a record performance.

Competitive eater Joey Chestnut won the U.S. Chicken Wing Eating Championship, devouring 7.61 pounds of chicken wing meat in 12 minutes. That's the equivalent of 191 chicken wings.

That masterful mastication broke the record set just last year by the "Black Widow" herself, Sonya Thomas, who finally finished second to Chestnut, after winning the event four years in a row.

The contest was the main event at the two-day festival, celebrating one of Buffalo's unique contributions to fast food.

The hungry patrons had their choice of some 30 vendors, each with their own signature take on the chicken wing, its sauce, and its condiments.

Organizers had planned to sell 40 tons of jumbo wings this year.
