A detention hearing is scheduled for Tuesday for Duncan Badding, who last month was ordered by a federal judge to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
The 25-year-old suburban Buffalo man was arrested in August after federal and local authorities said a search of his home turned up explosives, bomb-making materials and guns.
Badding has said he studied chemistry in college and that the materials were related to his research.
He's pleaded not guilty to federal charges of unlawfully making and possessing destructive devices. Badding could face up to five years in prison if convicted.
Local police and federal officials
descended on Badding's apartment at 66 Williamsburg Court (r) on August 8 to investigate reports that Badding was shooting guns.
Once inside police found several firearms along with "suspicious homemade explosives."
By the time crews left 15 hours after their initial call, the incident had grown to include the FBI , The US Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, The Sheriff Dept.'s Bomb Squad and Erie County's hazardous material crews.
Unofficial sources say they took away approximately 150 items from the home.
