Moorman, Fitzpatrick Among Bills 2012 Team Captains

Ryan Fitzpatrick joins Fred Jackson, Kyle Williams, George Wilson Brian Moorman and Corey McIntyre as the Buffalo Bills team captains for 2012, as selected by their teammates and announced Wednesday.

Here's the official announcement from the team

The Buffalo Bills today announced QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, RB Fred Jackson, DT Kyle Williams, SS George Wilson, P Brian Moorman and FB Corey McIntyre have been selected by their teammates as the Bills’ captains for the 2012 season.

Moorman enters his seventh consecutive season as a captain. Wilson will serve as a defensive captain for the first time in his career as he was a special team’s captain from 2008-11. Fitzpatrick, Jackson and Williams are second-time captains for Buffalo. McIntyre is a first-time captain.

Fitzpatrick and Jackson represent the offense.  Williams and Wilson represent the defense.  Moorman and McIntyre represent the special team’s units.

Each player will have a letter ‘C’ affixed to their uniform to signify this honor.  Their responsibilities will include assisting in the on-field communication with the game officials.

In May 2007, the NFL introduced the team captain initiative with the purpose of supporting and recognizing the importance of team leadership.  The initiative has been strongly endorsed by the NFL head coaches and by the six-member NFL Player Advisory Council that was established by Commissioner Roger Goodell in conjunction with the NFL Players Association.
