E. Rutherford, NJ (WBEN) There was a lot of promise as the Bills opened their 2012-13 season against the New York Jets Sunday, a big free agent signing, a solid draft and the re-signing of key players had the Buffalo faithful thinking playoffs may be a possibility after an eleven-year drought. All of those positive thoughts were shattered by halftime and possibly wiped out after an embarrassing 48-28 opening day loss to their division rivals.

The Bills’ Bryan Scott was able to intercept Mark Sanchez on the first drive of the game which included Tim Tebow at wide receiver and quarterback in the Wildcat offense employed frequently by the Jets. Unfortunately Bills’ quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick, returned the favor with his first of three interceptions on the day. New York responded with an eight-play, 61-yard drive capped with a 12-yard touchdown pass from Sanchez to Jeremy Kerley .

Fitzpatrick (18/32/195/3/3), playing possibly his worst game in a Buffalo uniform, threw his second interception on the day which led to Sanchez to Stephen Hill touchdown which gave New York a 14-0 lead. It was the first of two scores on the day for the Jets’ rookie receiver.

Buffalo was unable to move the ball and found themselves trailing by three scores after a 68-yard punt return by Kerley. As if the scoreboard didn't’t taunt the Bills enough, injury was added to insult when running back, Fred Jackson left the game with an apparent knee injury and did not return. Receiver David Nelson also suffered an injury

C.J. Spiller provided a couple of bright spots for the Bills as he scored on a 56-yard scamper and later added a 51-yard run to finish with 169 yards rushing in Jackson's absence.

Fitzpatrick’s troubles continued in the second half as he was intercepted on Buffalo’s first drive of the half. Antonio Cromartie took the errand pass and returned it for a touchdown. The Jets kept their foot on the gas as Sanchez threw his third scoring pass of the day, this one to Hill which made the score 41-7.

Buffalo got scores from Scott Chandler, Donald Jones and Stevie Johnson but those were late in the game and also answered by another Jets’ score from Shonn Green.  It will make for a long week for the Bills who must prepare for the home opener in Orchard Park next week against Kansas City.
