Grisanti, Maziarz win primaries; absentees will decide Kennedy-Grant

Undated (WBEN) -- Incumbent State Senator Mark Grisanti has claimed victory in his GOP primary over challenger Kevin Stocker.

Grisanti won the primary with a roughly 60% to 40% advantage in the vote count. He also won the Independence Party line over challengers Marie Clark and Brian Siklinski.

On the Democratic side, the party-endorsed candidate, Michael Amodeo, won that primary with a 58% to 26% vote-count over candidate Charles Swanick and a third challenger, Alfred Coppola.

“When this campaign started, there were a lot of naysayers, people who thought that I had no chance to win. But as soon as I started talking to the voters and the constituents who live in this district, I realized that I was doing the right thing ..." Amodeo said in a prepared statement quoting his victory speech Thursday night.

The Democratic primary for the seat in Senate district-63 turned into quite the race on Thursday night.

With all the precincts reporting, incumbent Senator Tim Kennedy ended with 10,922 votes and challenger Betty Jean Grant, chairwoman of the Erie County Legislature, ended with 10,651 votes.

Grant rallied during the 10pm hour last night, and held a slight lead, until the remaining districts tipped the initial vote count Kennedy's way.  Absentee ballots will likely decide the outcome of that primary.

In the race for the 62nd district seat, Incumbent Senator George Maziarz won his GOP primary, turning back a challenge Johnny Destino by a roughly 2-1 margin.

Amy Hope Witryol of Lewiston, who's running as a Democrat in that race, also wins the Working Families line over Tim Moriarty.

Assembly district 149 -- Democratic incumbent Sean Ryan wins that race over challengers Kevin Gaughan and Joseph Mascia.

In other races, David Diepietro wins the GOP primary in Assembly district-147 -- 44% to 38%  over David Mariacher, Daniel Humiston, and Chris Lane.

Christina Abt won the Independence primary in Assembly district 147, also over Humiston.
