The plan was to see many other federal agencies move into the old Federal Courthouse directly across Niagara Square from City Hall.. and Congressman Brian Higgins is calling on the federal agencies charged with doing that to get a move on. "We're urging GSA to develop a plan as expeditiously as possible," says Higgins. He says the US Bankruptcy Court, the US Trustees and the federal defender could be among those agencies housed at the Dillon Courthouse.
Right now, those other courts and agencies rent space, many of them only a few buildings away, when the courthouse building is there, rent free, and while Higgins says it makes sense to move, the money has to be allocated. "There are more facilities to build and re-construct than there is money for, so it's important communities stand up and continue to put pressure on the bureaucracy so we don't get caught up in their inertia," adds Higgins.
